After Capcom announced the 25th anniversary boxset, many fans felt a bit underwhelmed with the actual content of the box. Gamespot UK felt the same way and published a lengthy article which elaborates on why Capcom has failed when it comes to the box set.
From the article: “ Where’s the Alpha series, Pocket Fighter, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, and the games that made Street Fighter a household name, the arcade edition of Street Fighter II and its iterations? It’s even more shocking that the original Street Fighter is nowhere to be found. Honestly, this set should just be called the “Next-Gen Street Fighter Value-Pak.” The audio and video content is a nice bonus, but ultimately, it’s the games that should come first, and this collection does more to reinforce the current state of Street Fighter than to celebrate its previous successes.
It’s also worth mentioning that fans of the series probably own all of the titles in the upcoming 25th Anniversary Set. With that in mind, you have to wonder: is this really for fans? If it was actually designed with us in mind, why not include the titles that aren’t already sitting on our shelves?”
