Seth Killian joins Sony Santa Monica studios as Lead Game Designer

Seth Killian

After leaving Capcom, roughly 2 weeks ago, the always so humble, Seth Killian, announced today, via the Plasytation blog, that he joined the Sony Santa Monica studio as Lead game designer. The Santa Monica studio is the home of hit titles such as God of war, as well as the upcoming Sony fighting game, PlayStation all stars. Below is a part of the Seth Killian write-up from the PS Blog:

“ I was excited to join Santa Monica Studio in particular because of the chance to work with some great individuals, but also because of the incredible range of projects they take on. If you head out of my office and turn right, you’ll run into the “God of War: Ascension” team. If you turn left, you’ll find the Giant Sparrow crew working on “The Unfinished Swan.” There are other amazing studios in the world, but nowhere else that I know where you can find that kind of diversity combined with such a deep commitment to greatness–which also happens to sum up what’s so exciting to me about Sony overall.

The external group works with Sony’s outside studios — teams like Queasy Games (Sound Shapes), Fun Bits Interactive (Escape Plan), thatgamecompany (FlowerJourney), and… SuperBot Entertainment, makers ofPlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale!

Ono san and an unnamed Capcom employee reveals Company’s questionable working conditions

Back in March, Ono san was rushed to the hospital, due to “overworking” himslef, or at least that what Capcom told us. Few months later, Ono san detailed his account on what happened on that day. Today we bring you more shpcking reveals from the the famous, and loved, EX-Street Fighter producer who revealed, to Eurogamer, more about the conditions and working environment at Capcom:

Ono san: ”Capcom doesn’t allow a trade union or any sort of worker movement you see,”…”So if I complain I will probably get sacked. You have to say it for me, OK? I want you to write: ‘Capcom overworks Ono’. That’s your headline.

After I passed out, I was thinking in the hospital: there are so many people at Capcom that, over the years, have disappeared at one time or another. Suddenly, in that bed I understood what happened to them… The day after a game is finished and goes off to manufacture there are 10 empty desks, their previous occupants never to be seen again.”

You can read the rest of the interview here

To make things worse, an anonymous Capcom Japan employee posted the below information about the work conditions inside the company. (Click to enlarge)

Capcom re-evaluating its strategy on On Disc DLC

After the Sf X Tekken DLC fiasco that angered fans wolrdwide, and after many complaints and even law suits that were addressed to Capcom, the Company’s Christian Svenson announced today, on Capcom Unity forums, that Capcom is re-evaluating its strategy on how to deliver post launch DLC. Below is his full write-up:

Svenson: “Hey guys,

We’ve been getting several questions, here and elsewhere about the future of on-disc DLC.

We would like to assure you that we have been listening to your comments and as such have begun the process of re-evaluating how such additional game content is delivered in the future. As this process has only just commenced in the past month or so, there will be some titles, where development began some time ago and that are scheduled for release in the coming months, for which we are unable to make changes to the way some of their post release content is delivered.

Ono san has fallen sick and is being hospitalized, says Capcom Japan’s blog

A bit of a sad news here, the Japanese Capcom blog has revealed that Ono san has fallen sick. The following is a translation of the original statement:

“I would like to bring something else to everyone’s attention. Shortly after the Street Fighter X Tekken promotion in Asia Ono-san’s physical condition rapidly and heavily deteriorated and he had to be taken to the hospital.
Because of his hospital tenure he will not be performing work-related affairs for a while. Ono’s well-being is very important to us and we wish for his steady recovery.”

We hope Ono San will recovers fast, in the mean time you can send him a “get well” note on his twitter account.

Ever wondered how would Street Fighter be played using kinect? well, wonder no more

From Garethop’s video description: ” Ok… it’s all nice and dandy that you can use something like GlovePie to make it simple to throw a fireball or whatever, instead of having to move your body around and do the hard-work for yourself.
There is a reason all the (worth-while) games for XBOX Kinect are physically taxing to one degree or another.

Stop being an out of shape nerd and have some fun doing something physical :)

Ok.. with that out of the way… This setup is just a nice and simple FAAST config to let me do all the individual commands with my body.

low/mid/heavy punch&kick, duck, jump, left, right, throw, power move.

It’s pretty obvious what the setup is if you watch the video.

Oh, and it’s very hard to play against the computer like this, since the game expects you to pressing buttons, not moving your body, on top of the slight delay that Kinect has currently ( waiting for that MS SDK to come out with the 5ms delay! ). So this video is played at “easiest” level. I’ve done the “very easy” setting, and it is super hard, and a lot more fun! But I was getting destroyed in it when I recorded, so I put this one up of me actually beating the CPU :)

Internet vs Government: Internet wins

A bit of games-unrelated news. As you may know, hadoken.net was blacked out, on Wednesday 18th (along with many websites like wikipedia) to protest the SOPA and PIPA bills that the US congress was supposed to vote on. The bill was so outrageous that it drove website owners and internet users to protest in an unimaginable number. In fact, according to this website, this has been the largets protest in modern history. And due to these events, both SOPA and PIPA were officially dropped from congress today.

Congratulations to all of us internet users. The interwebs is safe………for now (DUN DUN DUNNNN)
